Exchange Dublin

Learn Something; Share Something; Do Something

Open Learning Ireland

Please note - This event is being held in Earlsford Court on October 15th & 16th - if you'd like to participate please emaill openlearningireland@gmail.com for a free ticket. Let us know your name, email, contribution and the day(s) you'd like to attend.

As part of the Office of Non-Compliance at Dublin Contemporary 2011 we are offering a free, two day Dublin unskool. “Learn Something; Share Something; Do Something” is an experiment in letting people learn from one another, at their own pace, in a relaxed and inspiring environment. We’ll be tossing aside conventional hierarchical educational methods, and creating a new kind of campus full of arts and crafts, traditional and electronic musical instruments, books, articles, science experiments, discussions and workshops. There’ll be mini-workshops, talks and activities throughout the day, and everything is free.

Open Learning Ireland are a group of academics, hackers, writers, and artists looking to explore alternatives to traditional education. We’re are creating a space for learning, a place where knowledge, skills and ideas can be actively shared.

By creating an open, active learning space we will explore alternative mechanisms of social learning and peer skill sharing which take the teacher out of the equation. In Ireland we are constantly told that education is a mechanism for producing ‘skilled workers’ for the ‘knowledge economy’. We believe the motivation behind real learning is a joy in the act of learning itself.Isaac Azimov said ‘Any one of us at any time can be educated in any subject that strikes our fancy’: We aim to strike your fancy by making a fun space where play, doing and learning are inseparable.
This one day project is a proof of concept - our ultimate aim is to support the development of permanent academies of self directed learning across the country. So come, bring your instruments, talents, projects, books, anything - Learn Something, Share Something, Do Something.
We have a limited number of free tickets for the event - although we'll also be open to anyone who pays into the full Dublin Contemporary exhibition. If you're interested in participating please send an email to openlearningireland@gmail.com We'd especially like to hear from you if you want to run a workshop of some sort!

    • The ‘Fun and Games’ FREE “Taster Day” will act as an introduction to The ‘Fun and Games’ workshops that will be running in The Exchange from Monday 5th March onwards. They are as follows: Mondays – Workshop 1. Arts & Crafts: make and do fun, straight out of after-school television. Think Art Attack with a sprinkle of Blue Peter. Tuesdays - Workshop 2. Drama Games for Non-Actors: a series of entertaining and challenging games designed to allow anyone to access their spontaneous, creative side. Wednesdays - Workshop 3.Mixed Bag: A selection of schoolyard, party and board games played in a structured yet fun, and inclusive environment. The day will involve a combination of elements from all three workshops. Participants will be given the opportunity to get a glimpse of each and see what tickles their fancy! Each workshop will take place one day a week over a 4 week period. Alternatively, there is also the option available to be daring and sign up for one entire 3day fun filled week, and experience them all! We feel that adults often deny themselves the opportunity to simply let go and play, and so miss out on the joys and simple pleasures that can be experienced through engagement in play activity. We hope that our workshops will encourage adults to change their mind set to believe that “you are never too grown up to play!"
